Bokeh: The aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. The Bokeh (out of focus) effect was formulated for aesthetic and dramatic purposes.
In particular forms of storytelling: it visually guides focal points, becomes the dramatic introduction to the next chapter, or can render a certain ambiguity to its audience. That is the beauty of this aesthetic: The notion that anything can arise once the frame focuses.
In this case: great ideas, great filmmaking, great storytelling. For many, this film festival is the pathway to the next chapter in their lives. For many, the “bokeh” starts here and it is in our collaborative thinking and collective mindset that amazing ideas are conceived and brought into focus.
